Epilogue
~When we look back at it all, as I know we will, you and me wide eyed, I wonder will we really remember how it feels to be this alive~

"JC, this is nuts," Lance said, following his lover out the window, onto the roof.

"Why?" JC said, grabbing Lance's hand.  "It's perfectly safe, and I've always wanted to do this."  Sitting, he arranged himself into a safe, comfortable position, and wrapped his arms around Lance, who sat in front of him, his back to JC's chest.

     "You're just crazy," Lance muttered.

"Yeah, I'm crazy," JC agreed.  "I've got another cliché lined up, if you'd like to hear it."

"Please don't," Lance said, laughing.  It really wasn't so bad up here, he thought to himself.  The roof wasn't as steep as he had thought, and it was a very pretty night.  Their property was isolated, so no one could see or hear them.  He sighed, contentedly and settled back against JC.

"See, I knew you'd like it," JC whispered, lips against Lance's ear.

"Yeah.  So are you gonna do it?"

"In a minute.  I just want to hold you for a sec."

"Works for me," Lance said, smiling.  They sat together, just looking at the stars, enjoying the feel of each other.  After a few minutes, Lance noticed that JC was humming.  "What is that?" he asked.

"Hmm?  Oh, just something that I'm working on."

"It's nice.  Does it have words?"

     "Well, kind of."

"What do you mean, kind of?"

"It has some.  I'm still working on it."

     "Oh, ok."

"I'm actually writing it for you," JC admitted.

"Really?" Lance turned towards his lover, whose face was illuminated by the moon and starlight.  "I love it when I know you're singing to me."

     "Yeah.  Well, this one's different."

     "How?"

"I'm actually writing it for you to sing."

     "Me?" Lance said, surprised.

     "Yeah, you and me."

Lance snorted.  "Yeah, I'm sure Jive would love that."

"Jive can kiss my ass," JC said, seriously.

"Josh, you and Justin sing lead.  Not me."

"Then this won't be an Nsync song.  It'll just be us.  Something we can do together in the studio.  I don't care if it's never released, but I want to do it.  And I can't imagine singing it with Justin."

"You really are serious, aren't you?"

"Of course I am," JC said, his voice slightly worried.  "You'll do it with me, won't you?"

"Yeah, Josh.  Of course I will.  I'd be honored."

JC smiled.  "I'm ready now," he said.

     "OK, go ahead."

"I think we should stand up, don't you?"

     "Yeah, I guess so."

Carefully, JC stood, helping Lance join him.  He hadn't been lying when he said he had always wanted to do this.  He had seen it in an old movie once, and thought it was so great and so romantic. He took a deep breath.   "I love James Lance Bass!" he shouted at the top of his voice.  "Do you hear that?  He's gonna be my husband!"

Lance laughed.  When JC had said he wanted to shout his love from the rooftops, Lance had thought he meant it metaphorically.  This showed how much he knew.

     "You ready?" JC asked, grinning.

"Yeah, I'm ready," Lance said, taking a breath.  "Hello world!" he shouted, his deep bass voice echoing through the property.  "I'm in love with Joshua Scott Chasez!  He's mine and no one else can have him!"

"Yeah!" JC added, pulling Lance closer to him.  "Yeah," he repeated in a softer voice, before leaning in to kiss Lance softly.

"You know," Lance said, when they had parted, resting his forehead against JC's, "it's amazing.  I keep thinking, this is it, I can never get any happier than this.  But you keep proving me wrong."

JC smiled, touching Lance's cheek with the tips of his fingers.  "And hopefully I always will," he whispered.
