Chapter 21
Chris saw the glaring eyes of three of his bandmates. He swallowed nervously. "No, I don't, I was just saying, because that doesn't look like a natural position..."
"Natural enough. We were talking and he fell asleep."
"Talking about what?"
"I don't think that's your business, Chris."
"Yes it is my business! We're all in this band!" Chris retorted angrily.
"If JC wants to tell you, then he'll tell you," Lance said calmly.
"Maybe you'll tell us what you found so hilarious at the meeting too," Chris said. "Funny enough so that you couldn't even stay for the whole thing."
"That has NOTHING to do with anything," Lance said, still sitting. "And it wasn't anything. I wasn't the one sitting there lecturing my pencil for crying out loud!"
Chris reddened. "Shut up! At least I was paying attention!"
"So was I!"
"Guys, enough," Justin said, playing peacemaker. "Let it go."
"Tell him that," Lance retorted.
"I said enough!"
"Fine," Lance sighed. Chris glared, but conceded when Justin glared at him too.
"We can't have you guys fighting when we do that Disney thing."
"Who's fighting?" JC asked sleepily.
"Good job, Chris," Lance said. JC raised his head and Lance stood up. "No one, JC." He sighed and went into his room. Each of them had a room for when they stayed at Justin's, and Lance was there for a few days to make things easier with rehearsals. Joey was there as well. Chris followed, much to the protests of Justin.
"What do you mean, 'Good job Chris?' I didn't do anything to wake him up!" they heard him say.
"What's going on?" JC asked, sitting up.
"I don't know," Justin sighed. "Chris came in and they just started arguing."
"Bout what?" JC asked, worried.
"Anything they can think of." Joey was silent, worried. They heard the voices rise.
"Chris! Let it GO!"
"What is it with you today? Something get stuck up your ass?"
"Excuse me? Listen, Chris, you walked in the door and the minute you saw I was awake, you jumped on every little thing I did."
"Well, when you're leaving meetings because of 'laughter problems' and being secretive about whatever the hell you two talked about, I think I have a right to know what you discussed!" JC swallowed. Would Lance tell? Joey saw the worried look and smiled knowingly. Before he could form a coherent thought, though, Lance responded.
"What we discussed is in between me and JC, Chris. If we wanted to include you, we would have. But right now, it's something the two of us wanted to talk about."
"And I respect that, but I don't understand why you two were sitting there like that."
"It's a perfectly natural position, Chris! I don't see why you're having such a problem with it!" Lance's voice lowered, but they could still hear what he was saying. "I don't want to fight with you Chris."
"I'm sure you don't." Sarcasm blasted through the room.
Lance sighed. "Listen, Chris. I don't want to fight with you, regardless of what you may think, regardless of what happened. I don't want to fight. So let's just drop it, okay?" There was silence, and suddenly Lance's door opened then shut, then they heard another door open and shut.
"Well, that's that."
"Yeah."
JC sighed and stood up, going into Lance's room. "What was that all about?"
"Chris was just being Chris," Lance sighed. "So what's up?"
"Just came to check on you," JC said. "And...and to thank you for talking to me earlier."
"No problem," Lance said. "Least I could do, when I was thinking about whether or not I was gay, I didn't have anyone to talk to about it."
"And to thank you for not telling Chris."
"Why would I? I promised you I wouldn't, and it was our conversation anyway," Lance said.
"Thanks all the same," JC said quietly.
"It was the truth," Lance said with a smile. "You fell asleep. At least you don't drool."
"You really think it's not wrong?"
"I know it isn't," Lance said with a smile. "I mean, why would God make us one way only to punish us for it? It doesn't make sense. So there ya go."
"Yeah." But JC was frowning.
"Still thinking about it?"
"Yeah," he sighed. "I mean, I've always liked girls..."
"And I did too. But like I said, my beautiful friend Sarah wasn't very beautiful to me." JC laughed, especially at Lance's next remark. "I think I liked the way her boyfriend more than I liked how she looked."
